Ways to Give
We invite you to participate in Montpelier's mission through your underwriting support. A contribution of $40 or more qualifies you as a Montpelier member enjoying certain privileges depending on your membership level. All gifts made to the Montpelier Foundation qualify as charitable contributions for federal tax purposes to an IRC Sec. 501(c)(3) organization. There are many ways to make a gift. Some have added benefits for the donor depending on age, type of asset contributed, and the form of gift selected. The Montpelier Foundation will work with you and your advisors to effectively accomplish your philanthropic objectives.
Outright Gifts
An outright cash gift made via personal check, credit card, money order, wire transfer, bank draft, or currency is perhaps the easiest way to participiate. Extending a gift in installments over time may be more convenient for more donors, possibly allowing them to make larger gifts. Also, some firms will match dollar for dollar or more the charitable contributions of their employees. Make a gift online now using your Visa or MasterCard by secure online donation.
Gifts of Appreciated Securities
Donating long-term (held over 12 months) appreciated securities can offer added benefits — an income tax deduction of the full, fair-market value of the stock as of the gift date, and the avoidance of capital gain tax. Certain limitations may apply.
Deferred Gifts
Consider making a bequest to the Montpelier Foundation through your will, or naming the Foundation in a charitable trust with the possibility of an annual income to you or your family. A gift can also be made using assets in your qualified retirement plan. It is advisable for donors to consult their legal and/or financial advisors when considering or making a deferred gift to the Montpelier Foundation.
Gifts of Insurance
Montpelier accepts gifts of life insurance where it is made the owner and beneficiary. If the policy is paid up, the deduction is generally equal to the replacement value or cost basis of the policy, whichever is less. Ongoing premiums paid on a gifted life insurance policy also qualify for charitable deductions.
Gifts of Real Estate
An outright gift of real estate, such as a personal residence or farm (possibly deferred by a life tenancy), can assist the Montpelier Foundation and provide donors with an immediate tax deduction while bypassing any capital gains taxes.
Gifts of Personal Property
We are pleased to consider gifts of property related to the mission of the Montpelier Foundation, such as period antiques and historical manuscripts and documents. Such gifts are fully tax-deductible at fair-market value.
