The War of 1812

During James Madison's second term as president, war was declared against Great Britain. The War of 1812 is widely viewed as a continuation of the Revolutionary War or as a second war of independence. For the infant nation of the United States, fighting and winning a second war against Great Britain solidified their place within the international community.
