Come Dig at Montpelier!
The JMU Archaeology Field School of 2005 stands back to appreciate the endeavor of a summer field season spent revealing evidence for the yard of the Field Slave Quarters at OR333.
Montpelier hosts two archaeological field schools every summer: James Madison University (May-June) and Montpelier Archaeology Field School (July, accredited through SUNY Potsdam), and five Earthwatch volunteer expeditions. In addition to the archaeological field school, a six-day work-study program is offered to adults each fall. Participants learn basic excavation techniques and exercise their problem-solving abilities to piece together the clues they encounter during excavating and surveying.
